Congratulations to Randy Hynek, who recently received this year’s Outstanding Leadership Award! Randy, director of safety for Graycor Industrial Constructors, was named by Northern Indiana Public Service Co. at an awards luncheon held on Dec. 13, 2019, in Merrillville, Indiana. NIPSCO’s Generation Cooperative Contractor Safety Committee (CCSC) holds the event annually to recognize contractor supervisors and safety personnel who exemplify excellence in job site safety. Randy serves on the CCSC, which was established for contractors who routinely work within NIPSCO facilities. In addition to Graycor, the committee is comprised of more than 15 contractors.
“We’re extremely proud of this award which recognizes Randy’s dedication to safety excellence at the NIPSCO facilities where we work,” says Sam Potter, president at Graycor Industrial. “Randy works hard to educate and engage our workers in Graycor’s safety culture and programs to make safety the highest priority,” Sam adds.
In 2018, Joe Whitmore, Graycor Industrial supervisor, received the Outstanding Leadership Award, and in 2017 Graycor received NIPSCO’s Zero Injury Award for performing recordable-free work at NIPSCO’s Michigan City and Schahfer generating stations. Most recently, the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee Inc. awarded Graycor and the LaPorte, Starke and Pulaski Building Trades Council the Bronze Star Zero Injury Safety Award® (ZISA®) for having worked nearly 295,000 hours injury-free at NIPSCO’s Michigan City Generating Station in Michigan City, Indiana.
Randy joined Graycor in 2010 and has more than 40 years’ experience in managing industrial construction safety. In addition, he has an extensive background in accident prevention and training. He is a registered professional engineer and is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
