Project Scope

Graycor completed the core and shell of the assembly and body shops, technical center and social area for Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations, LLC’s new plant. Graycor sourced more than 60 percent of the $70 million award to local contractors. Graycor also sourced 11 percent of the contract to minority and woman-owned suppliers.

The highly-technical project included construction of a 51,000-square-foot Assembly Shop, 644,000-square-foot Body Shop, 135,000-square-foot Technical Building and 240,000-square-foot, three-story Social Building consisting of administrative and support offices.

Part of Graycor’s scope of work included all the heavy foundation work to support the large fabrication equipment. Additionally, Graycor installed isolation pads to minimize the vibrations of the equipment due to the highly sensitive nature of the facility. Reinforced roof trusses were also installed for all the hanging loads for the heavy equipment and structural steel platforms to support other machinery as well as transformers.
