Project Scope

Graycor was the general contractor for the construction of a 1,300-square-foot Cube structure at Westfield Old Orchard. The Cube’s minimalist structural system is nearly invisible and ideal for the display of merchandise and exhibitions. The interior has no fixed furnishings or floor finishes and includes movable lights and strategically placed power locations to provide total flexibility in programming. Two kinetic walls transition the cube into an open, naturally ventilated structure during warmer months to increase circulation, serve as a band shell to the adjacent park and provide seasonal exhibition space.

The structure acts as a multipurpose space for leasing to retailers during peak shopping seasons and new product launches, hosting gatherings and acting as a backdrop for the summer concert series.

The innovative design of The Cube required all structural and MEP components to be concealed in minimal column enclosures and ceiling space. The entire project team collaborated to model and detail all components using real data and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to coordinate the installation of all components within the design space constraints.
