Project Scope

Urban Retail Properties called on Graycor to redevelop and renovate this 30-year-old, two-level enclosed mall, resulting in a fresh look for Tanglewood Mall, which now houses new tenants and better serves its Roanoke, Va., community.

Redevelopment of the regional shopping center involved Graycor’s project team to convert a portion of an old anchor store building into new big-box space. The project’s first phase included constructing 42,000 square feet of retail space for future anchor T.J. Maxx, which features a new truck dock, façade and entrance. Site work, demolition of interior partitions and MEP services were also per-formed. In addition, the project entailed construction of a 48,000-square-foot Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear store on the mall’s second floor.

Demolition and build-out work also took place for various retailers including Steve & Barry’s, Chik Fil-A, Hair Plus, Watson’s Tobacco, Candy Bouquet, Lee Nails and Staples. In addition, Graycor demolished and built out new public restrooms on both floors of the mall.
