Project Scope

Reliant Energy contracted GSSL joint venture – between Graycor, Sachs Electric Co. and Sargent & Lundy LLC – for the design-build construction of an 870-megawatt, simple-cycle peaker plant in Aurora, IL. Work included installation of 10 combustion turbines, erection and implementation of a control building, installation of massive raw water and demineralized water tanks, site work and civil construction.

Equipment:

Four GE Frame 7 FA, 170 MW each
Six GE LM 6000, 50 MW each
Major Equipment by Owner:

Turbines; generators; all but three step-up transformers for the LM6000s, three furnished by the Joint Venture
Major Equipment by Joint Venture:

All balance-of-plant equipment, one 100,000-gallon demineralized water tank, one 200,000-gallon raw water tank, and an 80’ x 90’ control building. All subcontracts, startup and commissioning by the Joint Venture.
