Project Scope

Long-time client ArcelorMittal called on Graycor to update a metallurgy laboratory building located at the steelmaker’s Indiana Harbor West No. 3 Steel Producing facility. Graycor’s team performed a complete mechanical, electrical and architectural build-out of the existing four-story block building. The 3,200-SF build-out included locker room, office space, testing labs and mechanical level.

The project scope also included completing building utility tie-in of domestic water, sewer, service water and natural gas. When performing the underground work, the team experienced a challenge with rainwater filling the excavation areas and, therefore, utilized dewatering pumps to solve the issue. The project was completed safely and on time.

Graycor self-performed trades on the project included pipefitters, ironworkers, laborers and millwrights. Subcontracted work consisted of masonry, sheet metal, cabinetry and scaffolding.
