Project Scope
Graycor Industrial performed a plant rescreen and load-out project for Carmeuse Lime at Buffington Harbor in Gary, Indiana. The project was completed in two phases, with the first involving modification and strengthening of the foundation for the new screen. Installation of a lime rescreen, which helps to remove fine particles from the lime process, took place in the second phase. Graycor self-performed ironworker and millwright work. Final work on the project involved modifying the existing conveyors and structural steel handrails and platforms.
Challenges included working in an operating plant where a great deal of lime dust was present, as well as working within extremely tight space constraints. Graycor completed the project without interrupting operations.
Other recent projects for Carmeuse include performing emergency structural repairs to a kiln pedestal, for which Graycor’s response time was four hours from client phone call to arrival at jobsite. Graycor also made structural repairs to bins for coal handling and to bins for stone storage, excavated a pit, poured foundations and installed a truck scale.
