Project Scope

Graycor completed the rebuild/remodel of the main lodge and ballroom at Camelback Inn, a JW Marriott Resort & Spa. Reported to be one of Mr. Marriott’s favorite resorts, Camelback sits on a 100-plus acre site featuring 36 holes of championship Arizona golf, a signature spa and lavish meeting space for conferences and events. Graycor also completed work on “The Lodge,” a 1936 adobe mud brick building that houses registration, retail space, two restaurants with fully equipped, remodeled kitchens and spa facilities. Graycor saved much of the original structure, including the main living room that is the focal point of the space.

Graycor preserved the original adobe by first removing each brick, grinding it into powder and employing craftsmen to reconstitute and mold new bricks from the powder using the very same methods used in the original construction. The original beams and artwork were also preserved. The remodel also included a new Starbucks coffee shop, a 60,000 square-foot patio area featuring an engineered creek running through the site, four fire pits, an out/indoor bar, and a BLT restaurant, which is the new bistro concept from Executive Chef Laurent Tourondel. Elegant style is evident in the new BLT Restaurant that boasts mahogany floors, walnut bars and booths, special finishes on the ceiling and a very high-end kitchen. New office space on the second floor above the restaurant, two additional bar areas, and a second-floor conference room were also included in the remodel. In addition, Graycor demolished the existing 15,000 square-foot ballroom and built a new 40,000 square-foot ballroom. The room features a 26-foot-high ceiling with valance-hung lighting and divides into 14 individual rooms. It is also equipped with a full banquet kitchen facility. The project boasts high-end finishes, flagstone entryways, mahogany wood doors and wainscoting.

Graycor’s relationship with Marriott spans more than a decade and includes more than 30 construction and renovation projects coast to coast.
