Project Scope

Under a joint venture partnership between Sargent & Lundy and Graycor, the GSL team engineered and installed air quality environmental control (AQEC) dry sorbent injection (DSI) systems for S02 reduction and control for NRG’s units 6 (Powerton) and units 7 and 8 (Waukegan). The projects included BOP engineering, installation of the DSI system, foundations, piping, conduit and cabling, air and water systems, equipment skids incorporating blowers, mills, chillers and dehumidifiers, DCS interface controls, equipment building and associated HVAC, trona storage silos and road upgrades.

Balance-of-plant (BOP) engineering was designed by Sargent & Lundy, with construction executed by Graycor.

Scope of work on the project included BOP design engineering, DSI system installation, ESP modifications (SMPS installation) (Powerton project only), pre-operational testing, material and BOP equipment procurement, foundations, Trona silo assembly and setting (three total), complete underground electrical and piping and installation of cable trays for ESP modifications (Powerton project only).
