Graycor Industrial Constructors is underway on the balance-of-plant installation for two wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) units for NIPSCO at the R.M. Schafer Generating Station in Wheatfield, Indiana. This coal-fired electric generating plant is being upgraded with air emissions reduction equipment to further improve the environment. NIPSCO is one of the seven energy distribution companies of NiSource Inc. and is the largest natural gas distribution company and the second largest electric distribution company in the state of Indiana. Nearly 900 craftspeople are anticipated to be at this multi-prime site during peak construction.

One of the unique elements of project is the high utilization of Graycor’s new state-of-the-art fabrication shop for modularization of components. Graycor fabricated 17 modular pipe racks which ranged upwards of 75 feet in length, weighing 35 tons. In total the Graycor fabrication shop processed over 15,000 feet of pipe. This AQCS project commenced in February of 2012 and is expected to carry on through a portion of 2014.

Graycor also worked with NIPSCO on the AQCS installation at its Bailly Station, located adjacent to the Port of Indiana and has recently completed AQCS projects for AEP, Alliant Energy, Duke Energy, Midwest Generation and Xcel Energy.
