Graycor Industrial Constructors recently received awards for project and safety excellence, presented by the Construction Advancement Foundation (CAF), Northwest Indiana Business RoundTable (NWIBRT) and The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC).

At this year’s CAF/NWIBRT Safety Awards Banquet, Graycor won the ‘Industrial/Capital Project of the Year’ award. Graycor—serving as general contractor in a joint venture partnership with engineer firm Sargent and Lundy, LLC—provided self-perform construction services to install the CCR systems at Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s (NIPSCO) generating stations in Michigan City and Wheatfield, Indiana.

The award, presented at a dinner ceremony on May 9 in Merrillville, Indiana, was given by CAF in partnership with NWIBRT which also presented awards for safety excellence in 2018. Andy Strong, Graycor superintendent, was named an ‘Outstanding Craft Persons Leader,’ and Graycor also received a safety recognition award.

Project of the Year award entries are judged according to excellence in partnering and teamwork, quality in project management, innovation and uniqueness in construction techniques, sympathy for the environment and its surroundings, character and value that was added to the community, and craftsmanship.

“We are honored to be recognized in achieving project excellence while executing this important program for this long-term client,” says Kevin Grooms, Graycor project executive on the CCR program.

In recognition of work site safety and health, Graycor received TAUC’s “Certificate of Achievement” presented at its 36th Annual Thomas J. Reynolds Safety Awards program held on May 2 in New Orleans. Awarded in Category I of over 1 million work hours, Graycor achieved a DART rate of 25 percent the national industry average.
