Graycor Construction Company recently completed a major retail renovation project at Southridge Mall in Greendale, Wis. Southridge Mall is Wisconsin’s largest shopping center. This is the second major renovation project that Graycor has performed at the 1.2 million square foot Southridge Mall facility, the first being completed in 2004.

The scope of the recent renovation included a redesigned food court, new restaurant space, reconfigured and renovated restrooms, removal and replacement of 2,100 linear feet of upper level handrail systems, re-design of all four of the mall entrances, installation of new interior and exterior signage, energy efficient lighting and new wall and floor coverings throughout. Graycor worked with its design/build partner KA Architects to engineer temporary shoring and new structural support throughout the mall concourses to allow for the demolition of existing 2nd floor pedestrian bridges to create larger openings and allow for the flow of more natural lighting from the skylights to the lower level. A 35′ tall by 150′ long retaining wall was also designed and installed in an anchor store’s loading zone to allow for a widened plaza at the Southwest entrance to entice a restaurant to add al fresco dining.

The project was completed in a “live environment” in which the mall remained open to the public and fully operational at all times. Graycor also worked closely with Simon Property Group to make scheduling and phasing adjustments to the original schedule to accommodate agreed upon lease construction completion requirements with Macy’s, one of the mall’s new anchor tenants.

Simon Property Group recently awarded Graycor a renovation project at its Meadowood Mall in Reno, NV. Graycor has been completing mall renovation and expansion projects coast-to-coast for four decades and has led 12 major mall renovations in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin in the last two years.
