Graycor Industrial Constructors is the proud recipient of three safety awards given at the 16th Annual Zero Injury Safety Awards® (ZISA®) gala held on Oct. 27, 2016, in Washington, D.C. The ceremony took place in the historic National Building Museum where the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee Inc. (NMAPC) bestowed the most prestigious safety award in the industry to 122 tripartite teams—a record number in ZISA® history—for safely completing more than 22 million work hours last year with zero injuries.

Winning the ZISA® Bronze Star, Graycor Industrial’s Dan Kilgore, vice president, Pat Kouns, construction manager, Brad Flohre, project manager, and Randy Hynek, director of safety, were on hand, as well as representatives from AK Steel and Butler County Building & Construction Trades Council (BCB&CTC), to accept the award that recognized 326,229 work hours performed with zero injuries at the Middletown Works plant. Graycor utilized local trades from BCB&CTC to self-perform maintenance and industrial construction projects completed in 2015 at the Middletown, Ohio, facility.

In addition, Graycor Industrial received two Certificate of Merit awards: one for performing 71,984 injury-free work hours at ArcelorMittal’s Warren Plant in Warren, Ohio; and another for completing 157,913 work hours with zero recordable injuries at BP Products North America Inc.’s Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana. Local union labor from Western Reserve Building Trades Council and Northwestern Indiana Building Trades Council, respectively, was utilized on the projects.

“Graycor is honored to be a part of an alliance whose members strive for safety excellence,” says Kilgore. “We rely on the quality labor these union associations provide and are appreciative of their diligence and hard work in helping us achieve our zero injuries safety goal,” he adds.

The ZISA Award® is a tribute to the alliance formed between owners, signatory contractors (such as Graycor), and local and international unions who work together to achieve zero injuries on their industrial construction and maintenance projects throughout a calendar year. Of the 122 teams that won, 119 worked together under the National Maintenance Agreement (NMA), and three teams worked under the National Construction Agreement (NCA).
