Honoring the best projects in Northwest Indiana, the Construction Advancement Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc. (CAF) recently presented the Industrial Project of the Year award to Graycor Industrial for its work at Northern Indiana Public Service’s (NIPSCO) Michigan City Generating Station in Michigan City, Indiana. Graycor was among more than 60 construction award recipients recognized at the May 12 banquet held at Avalon Manor in Merrillville, Indiana.

The Industrial Project of the Year—this year awarded for Graycor’s environmental Dry Flue Gas Desulfurization (DFGD) project completed on Unit 12 in December 2015—is the second CAF has given Graycor. In 2014, Graycor won the award for performing a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) environmental project on Units 14/15 at NIPSCO’s R.M. Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield, Indiana.

For its 2015 safety awards, Northwest Indiana Business RoundTable (NWIBRT) also presented Graycor Industrial with two awards at the banquet. Dan Sullivan, Graycor Industrial superintendent, was named ‘Outstanding Craft Persons Safety Leader,” and Graycor received a Recognition Award for having DAFW (Days Away From Work), DART (Days Away, Restricted or Transferred) and TRIR (Total Recordable Injury Rate) levels lower than the national industry averages of its NAICS code group.

Recognized for its commitment to worksite safety and health, Graycor Industrial also recently received the Thomas J. Reynolds “Certificate of Achievement” award presented by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC). Announced at TAUC’s 33rd Annual Thomas J. Reynolds Safety Awards program, the award recognizes member contractors who achieved a DART rate of 25 percent or more below the national industry in 2015. Graycor was recognized in “Category I Over 1 Million Work Hours.”

CAF is a regional construction industry trade association with over 500 affiliated contractor companies in various construction industry markets, serving professional contractors working in select counties in Indiana.
