Longtime Graycor client and the world’s largest steel company, ArcelorMittal called on Graycor Industrial Constructors to assemble a large package boiler in their Indiana Harbor plant located in East Chicago, Indiana. ArcelorMittal’s Indiana Harbor Plant is the largest steelmaking complex in North America.

This ASME Section I Power Boiler assembly project included the installation of an economizer, main steam piping, air heater and support steel. It also included installation of a 315′ tall stack and various balance of plant piping systems which would support the boiler operation. The successful completion of this assembly further enhances Graycor’s power boiler resume and its utilization of its ASME Certificates of Authorization. According to Brian Boseo, Graycor’s Manager – Quality Systems, “This is an important project for us because it reinforces our diversity and validates the effectiveness of our Quality program. The assembly of this boiler and associated piping consisted of large bore, heavy wall carbon and low alloy steel welding which required significant post weld heat treatment and nondestructive examination”.

For decades, ArcelorMittal and its predecessors (Inland Steel, Ispat Inland, LTV Steel and Bethlehem Steel) have relied on Graycor for construction services throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
