Graycor Construction Company is pleased to announce that it has completed the renovation of Concord Mills, a 1.4 million square foot shopping center in the Charlotte area. Graycor applied its live environment methodology to ensure that the mall and all of its stores could remain open and functional during the construction.

“Shopping centers today are competing for business not only among themselves, but with online retail,” says Jyot Parmar, Graycor Construction Manager. “It was essential for Simon Property to maintain a positive shopping experience for its customers while they were in the process of improving their center.”

The first phase of the renovation included a redesigned dining pavilion, new lounges, enhanced charging stations and improved interior and exterior wayfinding. Other upgrades included flooring, ceiling elements, smoke wall and ceiling painting and interior lighting throughout the mall. Graycor also coordinated furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E).

The second phase of the project focused on exterior upgrades, which started with entrance renovations. It included facade facelift with new stone finishes and softer color scheme, new signage with Simon’s “infinity” logo branding, hardscape refresh using new decorative concrete, lighting, custom IPE benches, and sight line improvements using alternative landscaping options. During the course of the project, the scope of exterior improvements was expanded to include façade changes beyond the entrances, directional signage around the ring road and a new 70-foot tall tower sign facing I-85.

Graycor is proud to have completed yet another successful project with Simon Property Group, the owner of Concord Mills. Bergmann Associates served as the architect for the renovation.
