Graycor Construction Company was recently awarded a ground-up iFly Facility for Texas-based company SkyGroup Investment, LLC in the Near North neighborhood of downtown Chicago. The entertainment company creates a modern indoor skydiving experience using a wall-to-wall cushion of air in a flight chamber and has 37 locations around the world in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Construction has already begun on the 6,000 square-foot facility located at 1300 N. Halsted Street, just north of the former Cabrini-Green public housing area. The scope includes a new two-story building and precast wind tower to be supported by pipe piles driven approximately 90 feet below grade as well as a deep basement surrounded with a steel earth retention system. The wind turbines, located on top of the precast tower, push air down the precast tower and into a 30 feet deep basement. Through detailed engineering, the wind is directed back up to a radius opening which allows the final skydiving experience.

Construction is expected to be completed later this Fall. For more information on iFly, please visit https://www.iflyworld.com/.
