Graycor recently completed Shops on Main, a $112-million upscale retail development in Schererville, IN, for Regency Centers. Regency Centers is a national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored and community shopping centers. The 148,000 square foot community shopping center is located in Northwest Indiana at the intersection of two main arterial roads, U.S. Route 41 and Main Street, about 25 miles southeast of Chicago.

The project scope included traffic controls, site protection, building demolition, site excavation, utility installation, paving, curb work and landscaping along with the completion of the main anchor building, two out-parcel buildings and five out-lots on the 35-acre site.

Stores in the mall development which is almost fully leased include anchors Gordmans, Ross Dress for Less, HomeGoods, DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse as well as Pier 1 Imports. The outparcel buildings house additional retail and restaurants that include Back to Bed, Meatheads, Noodles, Firehouse Subs YoAmazing Yogurt Shoppe, Carter’s, Tomato Bar Pizza Bakery, Kirkland’s, OshKosh and Lane Bryant. The development is projected to create up to 150 new jobs for the community.

“This was an exciting project to be part of since you don’t see that many ground-up retail centers these days”, said Jerry Smith, Senior Project Manager at Graycor Construction Company. “We very much enjoyed working with the Regency Centers team and were happy we were able to deliver a successful and injury free project.”

The future development planned on site includes a 40,000 square foot Whole Foods Market.
