Westfield Countryside Mall and Cobb Theaters recently developed a brand new 12-screen theater on the mall campus. The theater is the anchor of a major mall revitalization project which included new and expanded restaurant options, a new two-story expansion and a new face for the adjacent entrance of the mall.

Graycor Construction Company worked with both Cobb Theater and Westfield Countryside Mall to make this entertainment destination a reality. The scope of the project began with a 70,000 square foot, two-level mall expansion that updated various areas of the mall interior. After the main components of the mall project were completed, Graycor’s involvement continued as it focused its resources on the Cobb Theater build-out.

The theater resides on the second floor of the newly renovated mall, with restaurants occupying the main level. During the build-out, Graycor installed state-of-the-art audio visual equipment with 100% digital projection, 7.1 digital surround sound, D-Box motion seats, 3-D capabilities and individual controls for the sight and hearing impaired. Projection technology within the theater is also state-of-the-art; it is all operated via computerized schedules that only require one technician to manage all 12 screens.

Despite an aggressive schedule, logistical challenges of building on the second floor and performing all work while the mall was fully operational, Graycor successfully completed the project four months prior to expected completion and before the mall’s holiday shopping season. Cobb Theater celebrated its grand opening on December 15, 2011.
