Graycor Construction Company was recently awarded a contract to perform a major renovation at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, Ill. on over 300,000 square feet of outdoor and common area space. Oakbrook Center, one of the largest shopping centers in the U.S., is owned by General Growth Properties. Graycor is working with Omniplan (Architects) and StudioOutside (Landscape Architects) on the renovation project.

Known for being a premier shopping destination, with over two million square feet and more than 160 retail stores and restaurants, the mall is nothing short of a shopper’s paradise. Oakbrook Center is one of the largest open-air shopping centers in the U.S. and is enhanced by its fresh vegetation, ponds and fountains, and beautiful flower gardens. The open-air mall was established in 1962 and has experienced four expansions since then. Inland Construction, now part of Graycor Construction Company, built the mall. This is Graycor’s fourth enhancement project at the mall since then.

The intent of the recently contracted renovations is to further enhance Oakbrook Center’s shopping ambiance by creating a modem version of the existing shopping center with new pedestrian paths, updated navigational graphics, modern seating, improved lighting and enhanced vibrant landscaping.

Graycor’s extensive experience with similar large retail projects and its “Live Environment” planning process helped Graycor win this high-profile project award. Graycor’s “Live Environment” planning process enables Graycor to implement a detailed phasing and logistics plan that supports day and night shifts without disrupting the owner’s operations. Other current Graycor mall renovation and enhancement projects include Chico Mall in Chico, CA and Charleston Town Mall in Charleston, WV. Expected completion of this project is slated for Fall 2013.
