In 2021 Graycor created a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council with a specific vision and purpose. With the full support and guidance of Executive Leadership, the DEI Council created an action plan centered on four key areas: 1) our Employees; 2) our Culture; 3) our Trade Partners/Vendors/Suppliers; and 4) the Communities where we live and work.

Graycor’s DEI Vision: “Create a workplace that mirrors the diversity of the communities where we live and work. Provide a work environment where all employees feel safe and respected, are able to thrive, and embrace and leverage their diverse and unique backgrounds, talents and interests to advance the business.”

DEI Council Purpose: “Identify and integrate best practices for diversity, equity and inclusion into our work culture. The DEI Council serves as an advisory body to the Executive Team. The Council provides research, recommendations, event support and policy guidance.”

A renewed focus in 2022 is being more intentional about ramping up diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by reaffirming and advancing our continued commitment. We believe in the power of diversity at Graycor, where people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, ideas, experiences and abilities join forces to foster innovation, creativity and performance excellence—all of which help create a thriving work environment with strong business results.

April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a celebration initiated to recognize and honor the diversity surrounding us. The celebration of diversity is at its best when it is embraced by the people that constitute it. What better way to share what diversity means to Graycor than to hear from different members of our organization. Here’s what they had to say:

Embracing diverse resources brings agility, flexibility and new perspectives to strengthen our Graycor team the same way diversifying our clients and markets bring balance and stability to our business. Connecting with others allows us to grow as individuals and the trust and understanding that comes from this connection creates innovative teams powerful enough to accomplish anything.

Operations Manager

Diversity to me is a group of individuals with different backgrounds, thoughts, beliefs and life experiences working together as a team, and respecting and accepting each other’s differences. At Graycor, diversity is at the core of our values, which has helped us create a cohesive and more productive place to work.

Nirav Doshi

Seeing a work environment that mirrors the diverse world we live in and having those diverse individuals be treated equally and fairly with respect for what they bring to the table is something that I truly value.

Sharon Williams
Manager | Claims and Loss Prevention

Diversity is at the core of having an innovative culture. Many different backgrounds and ideas lead directly to better outcomes for our projects and people.

To me, Diversity means that people from all walks of life come together to serve one common goal – representing Graycor. There is no one single way to do this, but it is done using everyone’s uniqueness and drive to continuously improve for themselves and the company. Working for a company that accepts the different ways this can be achieved is key.

Amanda Fryzlewicz
Project Coordinator

To me, diversity is about welcoming and acknowledging people with different backgrounds and treating them equally, regardless of their race, gender, religion, age, social status or political perspectives. Being an Asian woman, I feel comfortable at work and often empowered knowing I have just as many opportunities as any of my other coworkers.

Lan Mills
Senior Project Manager

Diversity at Graycor means being able to learn from a variety of individual perspectives represented on our Graycor team. I feel fortunate to be able to work with people from different ages, genders, races, sex, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, education, upbringings, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and a variety of life experiences daily. I love that no two Graycor employees bring the same perspective. This diversity is something that has helped me grow as a person and as a Graycor employee.

Michael Richards
Project Manager

There are many forms of diversity, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, religion and age to name a few. Over the years, I have seen an increase in all these forms of diversity at Graycor and it has been without a doubt for the better. I find it incredibly beneficial to have the diversity we currently have and am encouraged by our renewed focus on diversity. Not only is it valuable for others to experience diverse perspectives and to learn from them but it also allows folks to grow personally and to have our work environment representative of the diverse world around us. I am proud to be part of a company that welcomes, encourages and embraces diversity.

Steve Oldendorf
Construction Manager

Having a workforce represented by a wide range of people from different perspectives, backgrounds, experiences and world views who feel welcomed and respected for who they are, not what they are, is what I envision when I think about our renewed focus on DEI at Graycor.

Diversity has a direct effect on our safety culture and the relationships we count on to prevent accidents. By breaking down barriers, whether they be language or cultural, we can communicate safety expectations and warnings more effectively.
