Project scope:

Graycor Construction completed work for Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations, LLC for construction of the assembly and body shops, technical center and social area for Volkswagen’s new plant in Chattanooga. Graycor Construction sourced more than 60 percent of the contract to local contractors. Graycor Construction also sourced 11 percent of the contract to minority- and woman-owned suppliers.

Construction on this highly-technical project began in April 2009. The contract scope included construction of the assembly and body shops, the technical center and the social area. The social area houses plant-related administrative functions.

Part of Graycor Construction’s scope of work included all the heavy foundation work to support the large fabrication equipment.  Additionally, Graycor Construction installed isolation pads to minimize the vibrations of the equipment because of the highly sensitive nature of the facility.  Graycor Construction also installed reinforced roof trusses for all the hanging loads for the heavy equipment, structural steel platforms to support other machinery as well as transformers.
