When Thunderbird School of Global Management, the #1 ranked International Business school in the US, needed to renovate an existing building into a state of the art learning center, they called on, Graycor Construction Company Inc. for the renovation. The existing facility was expanded and now includes over 17,000 SF lecture halls, research rooms and faculty office space. The facility is equipped with the latest technology and capable of conducting collaborative classes, lectures, and international forums with students all around the globe.
This project was completed on a live college campus. Continual coordination with the college staff and security staff ensured public safety, site security and work progress while keeping interruption to the college’s activities to a minimum. The nearly 17,000 square-foot project required site excavation with follow-up landscaping to accommodate the large amphitheater style lecture hall addition and demolition of existing offices with portions of the existing structure. The office areas were newly configured to house office staff, a number of research rooms that included technology and aides for the students to use on research projects in the field of global management, as well as the new high tech lecture hall.
A week-long interruption to work was managed so that a large campus function could be held in the area adjoining the project. With careful coordination, the portion of the project exposed to the event area were finished and construction work was suspended. The school was able to hold the function without construction concerns.
