Graycor Construction is the general contractor for the redevelopment of a three-story, 250,000-square-foot Sears building at Oakbrook Center. The building will be divided, enabling Sears to downsize to one floor and the shopping center to take advantage of the remaining two floors.
The first floor shell will be turned over to Sears, second floor shells to multiple in-line tenants, and third floor to Kidzania, a children’s entertainment business with miniature cities. The project includes demolition of the roof and third floor, as well as a section on the first floor. The new tenant shell space will have increased ceiling heights, structural capacity and vertical transportation. The project also includes demolition of the Sears Auto Center to create a pad for a future health club tenant.
The smaller Sears store will offer home appliances, mattresses, household goods, sporting goods, tools and a targeted assortment of apparel.
