L.L.Bean Skokie
Graycor Construction completed this 27,000-square-foot interior build-out for retailer L.L.Bean at Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie, Ill. The store earned Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is a national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. Sustainability and sensitivity to the environment were key factors in the store design, such as utilizing salvaged materials, minimizing construction waste, and maintaining energy efficiency. Materials include structural steel fabricated from recycled materials and interior walkways finished with recycled rubber or carpet. Salvaged materials such as structural timbers, bead board and floorboard, were used in many key features of the new store. Sustainable features include 100 percent storm water management, energy-efficient windows that provide daylighting and natural airflow, and low-flow sinks and toilets. The project included interior build-out of a vacant two-story building. The compressed 16-week schedule was accomplished utilizing two shifts, seven days a week. The Greeby Companies provided owner’s representation on the project.
