Graycor Construction’s West Coast team completed construction of a new Crate and Barrel home store located outside of Westfield’s University Towne Center in San Diego, Calif. Previously running its San Diego retail store within the Westfield UTC mall, Crate and Barrel relocated to a uniquely designed, 35,000-square-foot, two-story building suited to feature the specialty retailer’s entire housewares and furniture collections.

The store’s exterior — boasting high-end materials such as stone, cedar and corrugated metal — is designed to visually flow to its interior, where wall and floor finishes range from zinc, ceramic, brick and stone to cedar, pine and maple to corrugated metal and colored concrete.

A related project, contracted by developer Westfield LLC, called for Graycor’s team to make necessary on- and off-site improvements including wet and dry utilities, site concrete, asphalt paving, pavement markings and signage, site electrical and traffic signalization work.

Crate and Barrel, now with more than 160 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, has relied on Graycor for the successful completion of more than 30 of their construction projects.
