Cement facility
Graycor Industrial recently completed a two–phased project for Lafarge North America′s cement distribution facility in Detroit. Phase one included construction of a new silo–Lafarge′s largest in North America — including installing the facility′s foundations, slip–forming the 106–foot– diameter by 183–foot–high storage silo and placing the silo roof and two interior elevated floors.
Compared to most cement silos, Lafarge′s Detroit silo was much larger and more complex to build. Because storage chambers wrap the entire perimeter, Graycor slip–formed the outer chambers, and supported the forms and work platform with a jacking system independent of the main work platform.
For phase two, Graycor performed balance–of–plant work, including site work, structural steel, siding, masonry and roofing; installing dust collection systems, air conveyor equipment, process piping and insulation; and constructing interior architectural build–outs.
