Basic Oxygen Furnace Upgrade

ArcelorMittal Basic Oxygen Furnace Upgrade
Client:
ArcelorMittal
Project scope:

Graycor has provided construction services for ArcelorMittal (ISG at the time of the project) since 1982. More recently, we completed repairs designed to improve the quality of air emitted from the steel producer′s Indiana Harbor Works BOF (Basic Oxygen Furnace).

The project called for replacing chamber Nos. 3 and 4 collection plates and discharge electrodes on the BOF precipitator as well as installing all new electrical equipment. Each chamber was taken out of service temporarily while the rebuild was performed. In addition, Graycor completed an upgrade to the 84–inch hot strip mill No. 2 reheat furnace. Work included replacing charging table girders and recuperator boxes as well as modifying ancillary control equipment.
