HOMEWOOD, IL (October 2009) — As the demand for building green increases worldwide, Graycor Construction Company Inc. is positioning itself to have a competitive advantage in this arena.
“Building green is on the increase,” said Dave Wing, senior vice president and general manager, Graycor Construction. “In fact, many of the buildings we’re constructing have sustainable and/or green elements,” he added. “In order to help meet our clients’ green/sustainable needs, a number of Graycor Construction personnel have become LEED® Accredited Professionals.”
During the past year, a dozen Graycor Construction employees have passed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Professional Accreditation exam and now carry the title of LEED Accredited Professional, or LEED AP. Through a program managed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), of which Graycor Construction is a member, the LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive defines green building as the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water and materials, and reducing building impacts on human health and the environment through better siting, construction, operation, maintenance and removal – the complete building life cycle.
Graycor Construction’s LEED Accredited Professionals include: Ryan Archer, project manager; Steve Crowley, senior project manager; Brian Feckler, project manager; Tim Hanifin, senior project manager; Ron Lewis, project manager; Mark Neubauer, project manager; Steve Oldendorf, senior project manager; Jyot Parmar, project manager; Roger Sautter, operations manager; Rick Sherwood, assistant project manager; Dave Wing, senior vice president and general manager; and Evan Wisthuff, project engineer.
“The accreditation has enabled me to better lead our clients in the green construction process,” said Jyot Parmar, project manager, Graycor Construction. “The knowledge I’ve gained gives me a broader perspective regarding a variety of construction decisions from light pollution reduction to water efficiency to alternative materials, to name a few,” he added. Parmar was assistant project manager on the Promenade Bolingbrook project, a 1.1 million-square-foot lifestyle shopping destination in Bolingbrook, Ill., that ultimately achieved LEED certification on six of the eight buildings in the development.
Graycor Construction has also recently completed similar sustainability projects for Advocate South Suburban Hospital, BP, The Chicago Center for Green Technology, Joffrey Ballet, Kerasotes Theatres, L.L.Bean, Montgomery Place Senior Living and Toyota Mississippi. In addition, the Volkswagen Chattanooga project has sustainable aspects.
