HOMEWOOD, IL (August 2009) — Bringing nearly 25 years of construction industry experience, Jeff Powell joined Graycor Blasting Company Inc. as operations manager in charge of expanding Graycor Blasting’s services in the steel industry.

“Jeff has extensive experience in the steel industry and has worked for both general contractors as well as industry owners,” said Jeff Smith, senior vice president, Graycor Blasting. “Jeff will play a vital role in Graycor Blasting’s plans to provide salamander removal services to steelmakers globally, as well as help develop additional services for the steel industry,” Smith explained. Powell is based out of Graycor’s Homewood, Ill., headquarters.

Throughout his career, Powell has held increasingly responsible positions in the steel and power industries for a variety of firms including Carolina Power and Light Co., Armco Steel Co. and Mid-American. Most recently, he served as a consultant at U.S. Steel’s facilities in Kosice, Slovakia and Smederevo, Serbia. In addition, Powell also worked previously for Graycor Companies’ industrial subsidiary, Graycor Industrial Constructors Inc., in the steel division as construction manager. While with Graycor Industrial, Powell led the company’s Ashland, Ky., and Middletown, Ohio, offices.

“I am excited to return to Graycor,” said Powell. “My background in the steel industry, coupled with my experience working abroad, will give me an advantage as I work to expand Graycor Blasting’s service offerings, as well as geographic reach abroad,” he added.

Powell, who earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from University of Kentucky, has completed many construction-related courses including McMaster University’s courses on blast furnaces and stove design.
