TAMPA, FL (August 2009) — Operating from its Tampa, Fla., location, Graycor Construction Company Inc. is currently performing retail work in central and southern Florida for owner Crate and Barrel and developer Forest City.

Hallandale Beach

On the heels of building Crate and Barrel’s flagship Canadian store in Toronto, Graycor Construction recently began a new project to build a home store for the retailer in Hallandale Beach, Fla., at The Village at Gulfstream Park. The project, which began in early March 2009 and is expected to be completed in mid-November 2009, is being built with the aid of building information modeling (BIM) software technology. The three-dimensional, synchronized and dynamic building modeling system generates and manages building data throughout the project’s duration.

The new two-story, 35,000-square-foot store, located approximately18 miles north of Miami, will house approximately 22,230 square feet of retail space, 2,120 square feet for storage, and an 8,750-square-foot, second-floor overhang for stockroom and office space. The project also includes an adjacent 6,588-square-foot vacant space.

Also in Hallandale Beach at The Village at Gulfstream Park,  Graycor Construction is building two retail stores – Pottery Barn and West Elm – for owner Williams-Sonoma through developer Forest City. The projects began in March 2009 and are scheduled to be completed in August of this year. Scope includes core and shell construction of a 28,400-square-foot steel building, which will house both retail stores.

For Forest City, Graycor Construction recently completed The Promenade Bolingbrook, a 1.1-million-square-foot retail community in the western suburbs of Chicago. Six of the eight buildings in the complex are LEED® certified.

Miami Beach

Graycor Construction is also building a CB2 – a Crate and Barrel ‘sister’ store – in Miami Beach, Fla., for retail owner Euromarket Designs Inc. The specialty chain is a spin-off of the nationally recognized home furnishings retailer and offers a modern, affordable product line geared toward young urban adults. The Miami CB2 store, which is Florida’s first, is one of seven in the nation. The project, which began in early March of this year, is scheduled for completion in January 2010.

Project scope for the three-story, 16,000-square-foot concrete building includes all interior and exterior finishes, tenant office space build-out, and landscaping work. Sustainable building materials, such as environmentally friendly cement composite panels and bamboo flooring, are being used to construct this store. 

Tampa

In May 2009, Graycor Construction completed a 35,000-square-foot, two-story retail store for Crate and Barrel in Tampa. The project, which began in August 2008, included building the store on an out-lot of the International Plaza Mall where active construction was already underway.

The Tampa store served as the successful first time use of two prefabricated elements, an electrical room and insulated exterior wall panels, shipped from North Carolina and West Virginia, respectively. Having these components fabricated simultaneously off site shaved time off the schedule and allowed for installation upon delivery, thus saving lay-down space on the already space-constrained site.
