Graycor Completes Cedars-Sinai Solar Installation in Los Angeles, CA

Graycor Construction Company recently completed a solar renewables project with the construction of a solar carport system, as part of Cedars-Sinai's new Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion in Los Angeles, CA. Graycor Construction designed and constructed a shade-structure mounted, 250 kilowatt, alternating current photovoltaic solar system on the 26,000 square foot top level of the #4 Parking Deck at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

Graycor had specifically identified and targeted the solar market as an attractive market niche in which it could leverage its expertise and start to build out its project resume. The project team included IDS Group for the structural design, Stellar Solar for the electric design and HOK for the architectural design. The owner, Cedars-Sinai is one of the largest academic medical centers in the nation.  Recognized for the highest quality patient care, and for its innovative research and education programs that continue to make significant contributions to medicine and science. In the 2012-13 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Cedars-Sinai was named one of America's best hospitals.

"The newly installed system is an important part of the building's focus on environmental sustainability," said Peter Golerkansky, associate director of Engineering at Cedars-Sinai. Kent Harle, founder and CEO of Stellar Solar said, "This was a very exciting project to be a part of. Working with two internationally respected brands like Graycor Construction Company and Cedars-Sinai was a great experience. Both of those organizations are demonstrating leadership when it comes to business practices that are sustainable and fiscally prudent."

The completion of this project marks the re-entry of Graycor Construction in the solar renewables market. As Graycor Senior Project Manager Steve Crowley puts it, "Graycor's solar model was realized on this project.  We were able to utilize our experience with the client's core business to capture and deliver a solar project. Knowing the needs of healthcare clients allowed us to be sensitive to their issues and build their solar project without disruption. We feel that this model will allow us to continue to expand this venture with a variety of other client types."
