Bass Pro Shops Restoration and Rehabilitation
Client:
Bass Pro Shops
Project scope:

Having worked with Graycor Construction Company Inc. to build new retail stores in the Midwest and southern United States, Bass Pro Shops turned once again to the North American construction services provider for the restoration of its 135,000-square-foot anchor retail location in Opry Mills Shopping Center, Nashville, Tenn. Authorities and mall owners closed the mall in May 2010 after torrential storms and flooding of the Cumberland River devastated the city.

Bass Pro Shops secured a permit in June 2010 to begin repairs. Graycor Construction Company Inc., a long-time trusted construction partner for Bass Pro Shops, quickly mobilized to Nashville the subcontractor teams and resources from a nearby project recently completed for Volkswagen in Chattanooga to initiate the project.

"Graycor Construction has successfully and efficiently managed construction of a number of new retail locations for Bass Pro Shops," said Bass Pro Shops Project Manager Steve Callendar. "Once plans were finalized to reopen the Nashville store, we were confident they'd be the best partner for the job, delivering quality work in a timely fashion to help us reopen as quickly as possible."

Bass Pro Shops retail stores are award-winning and rated top tourist destinations for their outstanding concepts and designs, which combines museum, art gallery, aquarium, outdoor education, conservation, and entertainment elements unique to the region so that no two stores are alike. In recent years, Graycor Construction has built and/or renovated four Bass Pro Shops retail locations nationwide, including stores in Portage, Ind.; Bolingbrook, Ill.; Spanish Fort, Ala.; and now Nashville, Tenn.

"Whether a customer has been victim of a crisis situation, as is in this instance, or is embarking on new construction, we approach every project with integrity, diligence, and professionalism. We are happy to continue to strengthen our relationship with Bass Pro Shops and also to be a local participant in the overall efforts to rebuild the city of Nashville," said said Dave Wing, senior vice president, Graycor Construction.

"The biggest challenge of the restoration project was the changing dynamics of the scope of the project," said Jerry Smith, senior project manager, Graycor Construction. "We worked very closely with Bass Pro to refine the scope and implement our plan," he added.

Graycor Construction substantially completed the Nashville interior rehabilitation in July 2010, only two months after the area experienced significant flood and storm damage.
