A milestone in the history occurred in 1926 when the company, then known as Chicago Concrete Breaking Company, received a contract to remove sections of the retaining wall along the Illinois Central Railroad tracks in Chicago’s Grant Park. The successful completion of the project won the company a national reputation as well as its slogan “Wanted — a hard job.” The success of this project won the company contracts to remove slag and waste materials from steel-producing facilities, a service that Graycor has been perfecting over the years and continues to provide today.
