Graycor recently completed construction of a new paint and assembly plant for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California Inc. in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. The new 450,000-square-foot plant, constructed on a fast-track schedule, will produce new pickup trucks and truck beds.
Work included excavating and embanking nearly 2 million cubic meters of earthwork on the site, placing foundations, erecting the building, and installing utilities for the new paint, assembly and office buildings. Working with local consultant Hermosillo y Asociados Arquitectos S.C. (HyAA), Detroit-based Albert Kahn Associates provided full A/E services for the new greenfield facility.
The assembly plant project also included a design-build wastewater treatment system comprised of systems for reverse osmosis water, domestic water, sanitary waste and industrial wastewater. With the design engineer being from Japan and the installer from Mexico for this portion of the project, Graycor’s many face-to-face meetings helped them overcome language barriers and avoid any major setbacks. Japan-based Fujikasui Engineering Co. Ltd. served as design engineer for the wastewater treatment installer, and Ipec installed the electrical substation work.
