South Suburban Hospital's magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility, one of many projects constructed for the hospital by Graycor, required special shielding in the floor, walls and ceiling in order to limit exposure to the MRI's powerful magnetic field. Other projects for South Suburban Hospital include construction of the skilled nursing care unit, emergency room department addition, chapel, renovations of the surgery center, X-ray and mammography rooms and the "Family Birth Center" obstetrics department.
